Research

I found a sculpture of a Mayan god in the database of the Cleveland Museum of Art (the original image can be found here: https://www.clevelandart.org/art/1994.12.1) and decided to scale it up as a statue. To sculpt the asset, I first selected reference images to analyze the object from different perspectives and to better understand its proportions and materials.

Sculpting

The high-poly statue and environment assets (crystals, stones) were sculpted in ZBrush.

Retopology

The meshes were then retopologized to make them suitable for use in real-time applications.

Texturing and Rendering

The assets were then textured with attention to PBR requirements using Substance Painter and Substance Designer to create custom materials. The images were rendered in Marmoset, and the video was post-produced in After Effects.
